Seeing her mother die before her very eyes? Instant high-speed Heat vision Lobotomy. The fact that Luthor was REWARDED and no one was shown as being punished for their culpability speaks volumes about the cynicism of this eventMrCynicalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09597685655664903990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546837.post-9096370554330143802011-05-29T10:45:54.117-04:002011-05-29T10:45:54.117-04:00Well, for me, I consider it a failure for these re...Well, for me, I consider it a failure for these reasons, most of them having to do with the ending:

1) There were no other options other than shrinking Kandor back down again or genocide. There was no way the status quo wasn't going to get reset, and both of those options sucked.
2) Superman was powerless to stop the genocide of hiw own people. I really prefer options in my Superman stories that don't have him being ineffectual, as a rule.
3)Humanity's paranoia and xenophobia - the fact that they basically start reviling SUPERMAN smacks of the Marvel Universe mindset, not the mindset where Superman has saved the earth with regular frequency. It spoke of a lot of ham-handed allegory, which again, was terrible in the Marvel U's Civil War, and was a farce in the DCU.
4) Outside of the World of New Krypton mini, the Superman books themselves seemed almost in a holding pattern.MrCynicalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09597685655664903990noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5546837.post-70712712705783218392011-05-29T08:35:42.957-04:002011-05-29T08:35:42.957-04:00I really liked the New Krypton arc, at least till ...I really liked the New Krypton arc, at least till the end where they got rid of it. I don't quite see how or why it was a failuremrjlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03683082869179911101noreply@blogger.com
